The Ardross Community Council (ACC) is currently exploring locations for additional public access defibrillators in our area. The only one currently installed in our area is at the Ardross Hall. However, we are pleased to announce that the Ardross Ark have kindly offered to host an additional unit at their building (to be installed as soon as possible).
The ACC are reaching out to ask whether there is anyone else in the community who might consider hosting one at their residential property.
What hosting involves:
- A suitable location visible and easily accessible to the public at all times.
- A continuous electrical supply for the heated cabinet (approximately £20 per year, covered by the Community Council). This cost will be reviewed annually in line with energy tariff changes.
- Permission for registration online so that people can find the unit quickly in an emergency.
It’s worth noting that, while defibrillators save lives in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, they are very rarely needed at the scene of a road traffic accident. Therefore accidents hot spots are not necessarily the priority. We would like to distribute them in a way that each resident is less than 10 mins drive from a unit.
If you are interested, or would like to discuss what’s involved in more detail, please email chair@ardross.org.
The defibrillators are being supplied by Lucky2Bhere, Home – Lucky2BHere. Lucky2Bhere was established in 2007 by Ross Cowie who had experienced a cardiac arrest and was lucky in that an ambulance was nearby on the evening of the arrest and was able to use lifesaving equipment in their possession. Lucky2Bhere is committed to saving lives through education and they will be delivering training to residents. The Emergency Life Support Training offers members of the public the opportunity to gain the essential knowledge, skills and confidence required to take decisions and act in a life threatening emergency. Lucky2Bhere never just provides communities with a defibrillator, expecting people to instinctively know how to use it. We will post further information once the training session has been arranged – all welcome.
