Wildlife in Our Area

Wildlife in Our Area

Last year the community council were made aware of an incident involving the nesting swans at Loch Dubh. This resulted in the involvement of a local wildlife rescue and the specialised wildlife crime officer.

This is a polite reminder that spring is a sensitive time for wildlife. In addition to the swans, there are other nesting birds trying to raise their young close to the pond’s edge.

With the recent Traitors hype, there has been an increase in footfall around our area. A resident incurred a £200 vet bill for her dog after fishing hooks and line were irresponsibly discarded. Paddle boarding and swimming has also been witnessed.

The community council is working with the distillery, who are just as keen to protect the wildlife and loch. However, it has been alarming to find out they have also had issues resulting in the need to liaise with the police.

We would respectfully ask all residents to remain vigilant and to report any concerns about wildlife disturbance or suspicious activity to wildlife officers at the earliest opportunity. Early reporting allows appropriate action to be taken before situations escalate.

We would also remind visitors that this is not just a scenic backdrop, it is a living, sensitive habitat and a place that means a great deal to our community.

Please enjoy the area responsibly, keep dogs under close control, take all litter home, and leave Loch Dubh exactly as you found it — undisturbed, respected, and wild.
