We all know that litter accumulates on roadsides. Some of it is accidental, but much of it comes down to carelessness and laziness. It is also recognised that there is a high probability of this being from traffic passing through.
More concerning, however, is the quantity of strong lager cans regularly found along the Golf Course Road. This suggests it is not simply passing traffic, but someone who either lives locally or visits the area regularly.
Aside from the fact that nobody should expect others to clean up after them, there is also a serious danger to wildlife and livestock. If the litter is not removed, the council will eventually cut the verges and shred the discarded cans, leaving sharp metal fragments scattered across the roadside and fields.
The number of discarded high-strength lager cans also raises understandable concerns about road safety. While nobody can say for certain when or where the alcohol was consumed, the presence of so many cans along a rural road is troubling and something the community should take seriously.
The farmer at Millcraig has been dealing with this problem for years. One local resident has carried out several major clean-ups over the years, removing huge amounts of rubbish between Achandunie and Millcraig (less than 1 mile stretch of the road):
- March 2021 – 3 bin bags full of Tennent’s Super cans and 2 bin bags of general rubbish
- July 2022 – 172 Tennent’s Super cans
- April 2026 – 2 bin bags full of Carlsberg Special cans and 2 bin bags of general rubbish
Please take your rubbish home or use a bin. Ardross is a beautiful area, and keeping it clean should not fall to the same few people time and time again.
